The month of August called for the time of competition for the RP Lifesaving Team. This year, RP was represented by both male and female teams to compete in the 30th National Life Saving Championship organized by the Singapore Life Saving Society (SLSS). The Championship was split into two segments: the Still-Water and the Open-Water.
The Still-Water Competition was held on 12th August at Kallang
Basin Swimming Complex. This segment of the championship showcased numerous
techniques used in the pool which required speed and fortitude. The RP Lifesaving Team were brimming with determination to show the rest what they were capable of accomplishing. This competition brought out the best in the team with many of them clocking their personal best timings, thus setting the pace for their future successors.
The subsequent challenge on 27th August was the Open Water Competition held at Siloso Beach, Sentosa. The Open Water Competition tested the endurance and skills of the participants in an open sea setting. The RP Lifesaving Team entered this challenge with the promise of doing their best for all their events. With much determination, the female team made it into the Finals for the Taplin relay. Our alumni, James Teo
and Tan Pei Lee, also did the team proud with James qualifying in the Male Board
Paddling Finals and Pei Lee finishing First in the Female Board Paddling event and Second in the Female Beach Flag.
After putting up a commendable performance in the
Championship, the RP Lifesaving Team returned humbled by the whole experience of the competition. Displaying fair play and sportsmanship at all times, the team overcame many obstacles. Throughout the competition, the team managed to foster a strong bond and also made new acquaintances with the other competing teams. It is the combined efforts and willpower of all involved which has brought RP Lifesaving this far.
If you want to live the experience, do sign up with
