IGs from Young Aspirers Club Participate in Social Enterprise Pushcart Challenge

78 students from YEIG (Youth Entrepreneurship IG), JIVE IG (the events management IG in RP) and SEIG (Social Enterprise IG) were actively promoting local social enterprises via the Project Youthépreneur pushcarts at National Library Building (NLB) Events Plaza over two weekends from 8 to 16 September 2007.
The students collaborated with charitable organisations, such as SPCA, Simei Care Centre, MINDS, Hard of Hearing Association, VillageXchange and Canossaville Children's Home to generate a greater public awareness of social enterprises in Singapore and their various functions. The event was part of an Entrepreneurship Education Programme (EEP) conducted for the students by YEIG in August to provide them with a real-life platform to showcase their entrepreneurial flair.
Equipped with the knowledge of marketing and visual merchandising through the EEP training, the students decorated their pushcarts with original signboards and posters, specially made to explain the causes and needs of the social enterprises. They also actively interacted with the public in explaining to potential customers how the money spent on their products would go a long way in assisting the poor and needy. Donation collection boxes were also set up at the pushcarts to assist them in their causes. At the end of the event, the students contributed the proceeds from the sales to the organisations they adopted; this was done with a spirit of compassion and a heart to bless others.
With this event, we hope to garner the awareness and support of Singaporeans towards developing youth entrepreneurship and social enterprises through RP’s EEP led by facilitators at the Centre of Enterprise (CIE).
The EEPs are ongoing and we will continue our efforts to support the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of young students. |
