On
21 Oct 2007, 36 RP international students, led by the RP International Student
Club’s (ISC) organizers, made their way to the Singapore Zoological
Gardens. For many of us international students, there is hardly any time or
opportunity to visit any places of interest in Singapore as we are all busy with school
work.
Joining the ISC provides an excellent
opportunity for international students to go on trips together and to establish
friendships. This trip to the zoo was a chance to learn about biodiversity through an
"amazing race" game at the zoo. We had to apply the PBL skills learnt in RP
to gather our information in order to complete the worksheet given.
For the organizers of the trip, this was also another opportunity for us to hone our
event management skills.
During the Amazing Race activity, students had to actively
participate in the discussion to devise an “ultimate” strategy that would help
them clinch the championship title in the shortest possible time. The activity
ended earlier than we had expected. Because of that, students had more
time to explore the zoo on their own. We were entertained and impressed by the
animal shows. The keepers and trainers reiterated their messages on animal and
environment conservation throughout the shows.
As organizers of this trip, we are extremely happy that
everyone treasured their time together and was really involved in the activities
planned for them. The one month we spent planning for this trip was well
worth it. In the process of organizing this event, we made more friends amongst
our international student group and widened our social circles. Without the
enthusiastic participants, this event would not have been a success either!
Organizers from the ISC Management Committee include Wang
Xiao Yin, Su Wei Xin and Anthony Chang Khai Vun. For ISC members who did not manage to join us on this trip, do look out for
more upcoming activities from ISC.
