Team Republic Bowling - RP Stallions No Longer Dark Horses

On 19 & 20 November, Team Republic Bowling took part in SYCC’s Bowling Tournament for NSmen & Youths. Our bowling team came out of this tournament with a total of 8 trophies. The RP Stallions are now a force to be reckoned with!

From left to right: Joel Seah (Quartet 3rd), Samuel Tan (Quartet 3rd), Gary Wong (Quartet 3rd), Jonathan Lim(Singles 1st, Quartet 3rd, All-Events 1st), Anthony Chang (Singles 5th)

The tournament which took place at Safra Yishun started off with 6 games for the singles event on Day 1. RP Stallions got off to a cracker on this day. Jonathan Lim Zi Xiang, one of our newest recruits in the team, took centre stage when he started off with a game score of 201 pinfall! His next 2 games dipped a little, having a score of only 187 and 167. Nevertheless, he took matters into his own hands when he decided that the next 3 games were all or nothing for him. With this determined spirit, he raised his game to the next level, recording scores of 198, 230 and ending on a high with a score of 247 in his last game. A final surge of determination saw him claiming the 1st spot, edging out his closest opponent by just 2 pins! Another RP Stallion, Anthony Chang Sheu Ming, also rose to the occasion with scores of 174, 183, 189, 222, 156, 226. This one last shot proved to be his best when he grabbed the final trophy spot in 5th position of the Singles event.

On the final day of the tournament, our bowlers arrived at the bowling arena once again in high spirits, ready to make the final dash for the Doubles, Quartet’s and All-Events categories in the Championship. The day started off with 3 games in the Doubles event; eventually only one of our pairs, Keane Chu Chee Wei & Anthony Chang Sheu Ming made it to 7th position with an average of 203.0 and 175.0 respectively. Following close behind was our first girls' pair made up of Eileen Lim Yi Ling & Yeo Ching Yee, with an average of 177.7 and 180.0 respectively.

Not taking the results of the Doubles event to heart, the team refocused on doing their best for the Quartet event this time round. It started off with bowlers from TP and SP making a good start, and our boys, Seah Bing Zong Joel, Gary Wong Chee Keong, Samuel Tan Eng Kim & Jonathan Lim Xi Ziang following closely behind. The team made an impressive start with a total of 775 pin fall, with strong rivals TP and SP having a total of 656 and 768 pin fall respectively. The top 3 teams, including Team Republic Bowling, were neck-to-neck in every single game. None of the teams were willing to budge until the very end. In the end, our boys bowled a total pin fall of 2151, just 91 pins behind leaders TP and 45 pins behind 2nd placed SP, clinching 3rd spot in the end.

The end of the Quartet’s event brought the tournament to a close but there was another result that everyone was eagerly waiting for. The All-Event Champion would be the bowler who had the highest total pin-fall for both days. It was announced that the All-Event Champion bowled a grand total of 2427 pin fall for 12 games, averaging 202.25. The Champion turned out to be our very own Jonathan Lim Zi Xiang! Another proud Stallion was Yeo Ching Yee coming in 5th place. This was a very proud moment for RP Stallions and we are glad to say that the tournament has been RP Stallion’s greatest achievement for the entire year, sweeping a total of 8 trophies for this tournament alone!
