“Reflections 2007” – Republic Polytechnic’s Community Arts Festival [1 Dec – 15 Dec]

In December, please make your way to the Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC) and be blown away by a series of festival activities!

Festival tickets are made available at RP’s One-stop Centre, all SingPost branches, S.A.M kiosks and The Substation. Tickets are also available online www.gatecrash.com.sg or call Hotline 6222 5595.

NOTE: RP students will be awarded 1 NDP for watching any of the ticketed performances at TRCC only

1. ‘-Revelations-’ by Maya Dance Theatre, Gamelan Asmaradana & RP’s Modern and Indian Dance Groups

Revelations brings the great epic Ramayana alive through a contemporary dance production with the seamless integration of music, dance and theatrical elements. Live music weaves the essence of Asian dance styles and presents a contemporary touch. Be spellbound by Revelations that takes a journey into the life of mankind, and expounds the facade of man, beyond his goodness......

Re-live the moments of Ramayana through REVELATIONS.... the journey.

2. 'You Got Beats' by Republic Polytechnic’s Percussion Ensemble, Beats Encore

Having performed at countless events, this is Beats Encore’s first foray into presenting a full length performance. The performance will be based on the group’s original compilation of beats. Expect to see a variety of displays in the show that promises more than just percussive beats.

3. ‘Dark things: Dramatized reading of stories not for the faint hearted’ by the Verena Tay

If you’re into horror films, you’ll like this original theatrical production which promises to scare you off your seats.

4. ‘Viva La Symphonie’ by Republic Polytechnic Wind Symphony (RPWS)

In their second concert of the year, RPWS serves up a fresh, eclectic mix of “serious” wind music and songs we all know and love! Under the baton of CPT Muhd Yusri B Md Ali., RPWS gives you a taste of the Classics with a dash of popular favorites – featuring local folksongs and tunes from Teresa Teng. Don’t miss this intimate session with this humble, young band.

5. ‘MAD FOREST – a play by Caryl Churchill’ by young & W!LD, a division of W!LD RICE

The year was 1989. Romania was in the midst of revolution. Blood had been spilt. A hated dictator was executed. But was freedom won? How could you tell? Was your country truly free? A dark, comical play about 'real' events and mythical freedom.

Bringing together the various Malay art forms – Seni Tari (Dance), Silat (Art of Self Defence), Dikir Barat and Sastera (Literature) – Republic Polytechnic’s Malay Cultural Group will take you on a man’s journey in search of his identity. Odyssey will highlight the nature of each art form to reflect man’s soul and true emotions. Be enthralled by the grace and energy of the performance.
