The AIA
Singapore National Bowling Championships was held between 16-25 November 2007.
All Singaporeans and permanent residents of Singapore were eligible to
participate in the various categories, namely: Primary and Secondary school
levels, Youth, Graded ‘B’, Graded ‘A’, Senior Citizens and Open.
RP’s
Bowling IG representatives, Shayna Ng and Yeo Ching Yee, took part in several
categories for this competition. Shayna participated in the Youth and Open
categories while Ching Yee participated in Graded ‘B’. In order to get into the
masters of divisions for the Youth and Graded ‘B’ categories,
bowlers had to go through a Masters Qualifiers of 4 games and score above the
cut off for 12 female bowlers. As for
the Open division, bowlers had to bowl in all events to qualify. If bowlers
failed to make the cut, they would have to bowl 4 games of the Masters’ Qualifiers until
they made the cut before the deadline.
Both
Shayna and Ching Yee made it through without a hitch. Shayna finished in the
Youth division as Champion with 2189 over 10 games with an average of 218.9. She
was leading with 129 pins. She faced fellow national bowlers, combined school
bowlers and others. In the females Open Master category, Shayna finished 4th
with a series of 2539 over 12 games with an average of 211.58. However there
was
a Ladies’ Open Stepladder Final for the top 6 bowlers, so she ended up in the 5th
position.
Ching Yee
had a good run in the Graded ‘B’ masters as she bowled a 1532 series with an
average of 190.5 over 8 games. She managed 2nd position, losing out to the
leader by a mere 8 pins. She thought it was all over for her when she was
trailing at the 8th position after the 3rd and 4th games. However, with lots of
support and cheers from her family, she picked up her confidence and filed in
204, 201, 183 and 234 pins in subsequent games to clinch 2nd position during the final moments of the match.
Congratulations to RP Bowlers!
