RP Bowlers Victorious At The Bowling POL-ITE Championships 2007

The Bowling POL-ITE Championships was held on 24 November 2007. Team Republic sent two teams each of male and female bowlers to represent Republic Polytechnic.

This one-day competition was divided into two parts – a four game series of the doubles category was scheduled in the morning and another four game series for the quartet category took place in the afternoon. The RP team hit a rough patch in the first half of the day, but what transpired in the afternoon was a different tale altogether.

In the doubles category, Yeo Ching Yee and Eileen Lim fought their way through with a total pinfall of 1281, taking 5th place at the end of their first four games in the Women’s Category. Jonathan Lim and Samuel Tan took the 8th position with 1468 pinfalls for the Men’s Doubles. This was an achievement in itself, but the RP bowlers knew they were capable of better standards.

Wanting to make up for the disappointment in the morning, the team re-grouped and excelled in the afternoon events. In the Men’s Quartet category, Keane Chu, Samuel Tan, Jonathan Lim and Joel Seah hit a total of 2995 pinfalls and clinched the 3rd placing for RP, just 31 pinfalls behind the leaders. The second Men’s team, Shawn Koh, Anthony Chang, Gary Wong and Samson Tsu gave their very best and took the 9th place with 2666 pinfalls.

Men's Quartet Bronze Medallists

In the Women’s Quartet, our bowlers, Charlynn Gwee, Yvonne Chia, Samantha Tay and Nur Syazwani proved their mettle as they put up a good fight against Temasek Polytechnic (TP) to clinch the silver medal spot with a total pinfall of 2587. The other Women’s team from RP also put up a good fight against their competitors. By the second game, they were in 4th place and just 48 pins short of the bronze medal. But Singapore Polytechnic (SP) managed to bowl two high scores in the last two games of the competition and they jumped two places up to clinch the bronze medal. Nevertheless, Danica Toh, Teo Ai Ling, Yeo Ching Yee and Eileen Lim hit a total of 2485 pins and came in at 5th position.

Women's Quartet Silver Medallists

Our singles medal achiever, Samuel Tan,  performed tremendously well for all his eight games. With four high games throughout the entire phase of this competition, 198, 187,247, 158, 133, 244, 224, 226, Samuel hit a total pinfall of 1617 and was just 25 pins behind the Men’s Singles Champion! Another contender for the singles’ medal, Samson Tsu, sat nicely in the 8th place for the Men’s Singles Category with 1541 pinfalls. For the Women’s Singles Category, Yvonne Chia took the 5th place with 1354 pinfalls and Yeo Ching Yee clinched the 9th place with 1311 pinfalls.

RP’s Bowling IG did Team Republic proud this year as we clinched the 3rd position in the Overall Championships.

Well done Team!
