RP Men's Floorball Brings Home 1 Gold And 1 Silver From Inter Varsity Games

RP’s Floorball (M) team
ended their season by bringing glory to Team Republic. Also known as RP SalsaZ,
their hard work paid off as they bettered their performance, having previously
won 2 silvers.
Their first medal came
from the POL-ITE championships, which was held at RP in November 2007. RP SalsaZ
entered the tournament as hot favourites, and the boys did not disappoint. They
cruised their way through the competition, beating the other institutions to win
the championship. As hosts, it was the best possible way to end the competition
- winning undefeated on home ground.
The boys continued their
amazing form in the IVP championship in January 2008. RP qualified for the
semi-finals of the competition with 2 wins and 1 draw. We progressed to the
finals by beating NTU with a convincing scoreline of 6-2. The final against
defending champions, NYP, was a closely fought match. Both teams were playing
fast-paced attacking floorball. At final whistle, the match could not be decided
in regulation time and we proceeded to extra time. Eventually, NYP scored the
golden goal, dashing the hopes of RP SalsaZ. The final score was 5 -6, in NYP’s
favour.
Although it was not a
fairytale ending, the boys have proven to be a dominant force. Watch out for RP
Floorball next season!
