A team of 6, named RP Pink Ponies, were sent to participate in the NTU Touch
Attack 2008 on 15 Jun (Sunday). Lead by captain, Suryanti
Suryono, members, Ma Aye Wathone Oo, Yong Shan Ning, Siti Nurazyan, Juriani
Saini and Cheryl Choy, the team breezed through their first few games, awing
other players with their precision speed and dives that had already labeled them
as the team to look out for, after their first game.
In the first game, the girls played hard, amid the heat that was constant during the tournament. In 7 minutes, they beat Jurong
Junior College with a score of 8-0. Subsequent games placed a strain on the team, yet they progressed
effortlessly through the other 5 games against tough competitors such as
Singapore Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
Speedy steps and perfect dives by Shan Ning and Juriani Saini, quick playmaking
by Suryanti and Siti Nurazyan, accurate diving on defense by Wathone Oo and a
good desire to win by Cheryl Choy had earned the team a spot in the finals. By
that point in time, RP held the record of 27 touchdowns in just 6
games, making them the highest scoring team in the tournament.
The final match was between Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic.
Despite facing
exhaustion, the team performed remarkably well against their equally capable opponents. At the end of the day, RP emerged victorious with a score of 5-1,
proving to their oppositions that they are one team to be feared for in the
upcoming POL-ITE in July.
