Create.Republic celebrates Mid-Autumn

On 13 Sept 2008, a few Interest Groups (IGs) under Create.Republic went out to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with the community. Invitations were extended to various performing groups to make an appearance at two separate celebrations in Woodlands and Telok Blangah.

Woodlands CCC’s Lantern Festival Celebrations 2008 – Mandai Tekong Park

Our Japanese Cultural Group (JCG), Percussion Ensemble “Beats Encore” and A Capella group “Republic Rhapsody” celebrated the festival with the Woodlands residents at Mandai Tekong Park.

Residents were in for a treat with an exciting selection of booths made available for them, ranging from Chinese Tea appreciation, Calligraphy and Paper Cutting, to Lantern Riddles and Astronomy booths. JCG members greeted the crowd in their Cosplay costumes in the early part of the evening. And as the programme for the evening started, residents staying in the adjacent blocks streamed on down to participate in the ongoing festivities – even celebrating birthdays in the park.

Beats Encore and Rhapsody shared the stage with Woodlands Primary School’s Chinese Orchestra and other community groups that put up a good show to an appreciative audience of nearly 2,000. RP was given a token of appreciation by the Guest of Honour, Ms Ellen Lee, MP for Sembawang GRC and Advisor to Woodlands GROs.

Telok Blangah’s Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrations 2008 – Hort Park

Our Chinese Orchestra did a joint performance with Telok Blangah Chinese Orchestra at the celebrations over in Hort Park. The fair weather kept the crowd's spirits high as residents gathered at the stage area near the main entrance of Hort Park.

Over 2,500 tickets were sold for the event, which saw extended families and young nuclear families enjoying the programme, lanterns and mooncakes. Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour, spending the evening with the residents of Telok Blangah.

As the famous Chinese legend of Hou Yi and Chang'er was revisited, it served as a reminder to cherish our friends, family and loved ones by our side.
