On 3rd August, RP's Indian Cultural Group (ICG) took part in
Minerva '08 – Inter-tertiary Indian Dance Competition organized by Singapore
Polytechnic's (SP) Indian Cultural Society, held in SP's Convention Centre.
Minerva serves as a platform for the many Indian cultural
societies to unleash their potential and ascertain a name for themselves among
the tertiary institutes. This event highlighted groups from various schools to
put up strong competitive performances. One of the criteria of the competition,
groups have to dance and deliver a theme that they pick which has to be closely
related to our Indian fine arts, culture or traditions.

Six members of RP ICG rocked the stage of SP with their
magnificent performance. They worked with the theme of Shakti, the
eternal energy. And taking the forms of Gandharvas and the Apsaras
(heavenly dancers and musicians), the dancers delivered their best with their
stunning costumes and make-up, carrying the theme throughout the whole
performance. RP ICG’s performance was one of the most talked about items among
the 7 institutes which took part.

RP ICG emerged as the Champions of this competition, thereby
winning the challenge trophy. Being the first dance competition organized by SP
ICS, we have become the pioneer champions of this event. It is great to know
that RP ICG has raised its artistic standards, left our mark in another
competition, and brought home another challenge trophy!
Last but not least, we would like to thank all our supporters
who purchased tickets to the event, thereby helping us earn 20% of the total
score. It was a great experience in all, and we are happy to do RP proud.
