Team Republic Bowling Interest Group shines in POL-ITE 2008/2009

The Bowling POL-ITE Championships was held on the 18th of October 2007 at Safra Yishun. Two teams each comprising 10 male and 10 female bowlers were selected to represent Team Republic. Our bowlers have done everyone proud by clinching medals home again this year!

The championship was categorised into 3 different categories and there were a total of 2 blocks of 4 games. The 1st block of 4 games was the doubles event and was held in the morning while the 2nd block of 4 games was the team event which was held after the lunch break. The 8 games were then tabulated for the singles event. For the first half of the day, the girl’s teams were doing really well while the guy’s teams were doing their best to pick up their scores.

In the doubles event, Shayna Ng and Clara Lim fought their way through with a total pinfall of 1552 to achieve the gold medal. Singapore Polytechnic managed to claim the silver medal ahead of Danica Toh and Eileen Lim with a difference of 137 pinfall, who also did very well with a total pinfall of 1401 to clinch the bronze medal.

In the Women’s Quartet category, our bowlers from team 1 and team 2 achieved tremendous result, where Team 1, consisting of Danica Toh, Eileen Lim, Shayna Ng and Clara Lim, bowled a total of 2750 pinfall, winning another gold medal. Team 2, consisting of Nur Syazwani, Samantha Alexis Tay, Sophia Ang and Lee Jia Ling, did well by bowling a total of 2611 pinfall, clinching a silver medal.

In the Women’s individual event, our bowlers fought hard to maintain their results. The level of tension was really high. However, they managed to handle the pressure calmly and persevered on. After the 8 games, the ladies did RP proud as 5 of our bowlers were in the top 10 positions. The 1st position for ladies category was won by Shayna Ng, with a total of 1566 pinfall, followed by Clara Lim taking 3rd position with a total of 1398 pinfall, Danica Toh at 4th position, Nur Syazwani at 6th position and Eileen Lim at 7th position.

In the men’s division, our guys faced strong competition from the other polytechnics. Nevertheless they went all out, gave their best shot and gave a good fight. Although they did not clinch any medals, the tournament was definitely a good learning experience for the whole team, and they will continue their fighting spirit in future tournaments.

Overall, the Bowling IG won the Overall Championship for the Ladies Category, and 4th placing in the Men's Category. Republic Polytechnic came in 4th placing in the Overall Championship, just narrowly behind the 2nd and 3rd placing by 1 point and 1st position by 2 points.
