On Sunday
morning, 11th July 2004, Pulse Ironica from the
Republic Polytechnic’s Jammers Arena (Music.Republic)
did Republic Polytechnic proud by performing at
the Bluesky carnival at the Suntec City Exhibition
Centre.
The
Bluesky Carnival was organized by ACE. ACE stands
for Action Community for Entrepreneurship
and is managed by SPRING Singapore. Bluesky
is also supported by : EDB, IE Singapore, MOE, MTI,
JTC Corp and PS 21.
The objective of the Bluesky
carnival was to foster entrepreneurship in Singapore
by showcasing
businesses and the social and budding entrepreneurial
efforts by the community. Thus, the Carnival
served as an opportunity for young Singaporeans to
bring
out the stimulating, learning, networking and
adventure traits of entrepreneurship.
For the band,
the bluesky carnival was the third external performance
that they have staged. Pulse
Ironica saw this performance as a chance to expose
themselves to the public and therefore each and
every of them took this performance seriously.
They wanted both the crowd and themselves to
have fun and enjoy good music. Since they were going
to perform for a general audience, Pulse Ironica
had chosen to play some radio-friendly songs
as
part of their repertoire. Cover songs such as “You
and I” by Jason Miraz , “This Love” by
Maroon5 , “First cut is the deepest” by
Sheryl crow and “Like a boy” by Joss
Stone were amongst the number of songs chosen.
Playing in front of members of the public, ministers
as well as principals and teachers from other schools
and higher institutions, Pulse Ironica managed
to captivate the hearts of all those within hearing
range and the band received much applause and appreciation
from the crowd. The Bluesky carnival also marked
the debut performance for Pulse Ironica’s
new keyboardist, Rachel June Sim, who herself shares
a common goal with the rest of the members of Pulse
Ironica. Her knowledge of playing the keyboards
further has helped to further enhance Pulse Ironica’s
sound quality in this performance as well as
allowing them to branch out and play even more
genres of
music.
Emceed by 98.7 FM’s Jean Danker and Wheel
of Fortune’s Bernard lim, the Bluesky carnival
was overall a great experience for the band. They
hope to represent Republic Polytechnic and continue
at more events in the near future.
