Republic
Polytechnic’s very own Siti Suhailah Binte
Abu Thalib has been selected to be part of Singapore’s
debating team in the Titian Minda debate series.
This series is meant to forge friendship and closer
ties between college students from Singapore and
Brunei. The Titian Minda debate series will be held
in mid-August.
Suhailah is a second-year Diploma in Business
Computing student. She was part of RP’s debating
team that took part in the Malay Language Debating
Competition organised by the Malay Youth Literary
Association in June. In spite of her limited experience
in debating, she presented her points with such
confidence and style that it caught the judges’ attention.
Although RP’s team did not make it past the
preliminary round, Suhailah was judged the best
speaker for that round. From the pool of best speakers,
Suhailah was subsequently selected to be part of
the Singapore team. The announcement of her selection
was made at the Debate Competition Finals held
on 19th July, 2004, much to Suhailah’s surprise.
We wish Suhailah the very best as she represents
RP at this prestigious event.
