Well, they always say “Two’s a company, three’s a crowd?” They are right; three’s indeed a crowd – an exciting, vibrant and energetic one to be exact! With the picturesque Singapore skyline and its elegant, contemporary Italian setting, the Al Dente Trattoria at Esplanade played host to a truly happening crowd on 29th July 2005 as Republic Polytechnic ‘boogied’ away its 3rd birthday in real 70s style of big frizzy hair, baggy bell bottoms and zesty stripes!
With the aroma of fresh pasta and pan-fried Italian pizza filling the air, the night got off on a mouth-watering start as everyone indulged themselves in the good food and wine and chatted about the latest news, gossip and best-kept 70s fashion tips, perhaps? The feeling of nostalgia heightened as everyone was treated to a video which showcased RP’s achievements and the tight bonding that developed between the staff and students over the years. Everyone truly deserved a big pat on our backs for all the hard work we have put in and it was certainly time for everyone to literally let our hair down and enjoy the night!
Other than the groovy music and funky costumes, it was certainly a memorable night for many RP staff as it was also the night of Awards Presentation. Several outstanding awards were given out to our Republicans for all their hard work, dedication and achievement over the past year. Among the prizes awarded was Best Department of the Year, Top Suggestor of the Year, Most Outstanding Mentor & CCA Advisor Award etc and our brave RP staff Basketball team who came in overall 2nd in the ITIS-NUSS 4-on-4 Basketball Competition earlier this year. And yes, not forgetting the Best Dressed Male & Female Awards!
The night ended with everyone’s all time favourite segment – the Lucky Draw of course! Everyone was on tender hooks, waiting for their draw numbers to be read as they eagerly eyed the top prize – an Ipod mini. Judging from the big smiles on everyone’s faces and laughter, it was clear everyone really enjoyed themselves. Happy 3rd Birthday RP!
