The much anticipated event was finally here, the Republic Polytechnic Awards Presentation Ceremony 2005, a day where students’ achievements and talents were recognized. The Student Ambassadors were called upon to assist in this meaningful event. This event was held at the ultramodern NTUC Auditorium, on Saturday, 28 May 2005. The event was graced by our Guest-of-Honor, Mr. Heng Chee How; Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Mayor, Central Singapore District. We had our Student Ambassadors helping at the reception, giving out goodie bags, and ushering the parents and students into the auditorium and getting them seated.
To kickoff the ceremony, we had a welcome address by RP’s Principal and CEO, Professor Low Teck Seng and following that the address by our Guest of Honor, Mayor Heng. Both Professor Low and Mayor Heng exhorted award recipients and students present to combine talent with diligence to excel and also to use our multiple talents to give back to the community.
Next was the presentation of the awards, and for this year, there were three award categories, namely, Co-Curricular Activities Awards, Scholarship and Bursary Awards and Academic Awards. After presenting the last award to the Team of the Year, the Biking IG, we had a closing speech from Teoh Qi Wei, the second-most top student of DIT. It’s indeed amazing to know that we have solved over 300 problems (and counting…) over the course of our study at RP using the Problem-based Learning approach.
As the event came to an end, we had our Student Ambassadors usher the Guest of Honor and VIPs to the tea reception, followed by the rest of the congregation. Our Student Ambassadors mingled around with the VIPs sharing with them more about life at RP and also congratulating fellow school mates on their awards
Congratulations to all award recipients or should I say Winners!!!
