EXPLORE, EXPERIENCE AND EXCEL WITH REPUBLIC POLYTECHNIC AT IT’S ALL NEW WOODLANDS CAMPUS

Singapore, 13 January 2007 – Visiting the Republic Polytechnic new Woodlands campus is a great way to really see the excitement of the campus first-hand. And it cannot come at a better time than 13 to 16 January when the bustle for post-secondary options is up in the air again.

Students and parents attending the upcoming Open House will get to ‘Explore, Experience and Excel’ RP's uniqueness, difference and way of life. Visitors can look forward to their first-hand exploration of the impressive range of campus facilities and technology-friendly environment. In addition, visitors can have their hands-on experience in the various interactive activities and special exhibitions as RP showcases their innovativeness and creativity. For first time visitors, they can look forward to touring around the inspiring infrastructure and striking landscape. 

The Open House will also serve as an information centre, where potential students can enquire on the various diplomas offered by RP and the different support programmes that help create the conducive environment for the Problem-Based Learning that has fast become the trademark of Republic Polytechnic.

In addition to the current diplomas, potential Republicans can also make a pick from seven (7) new diplomas that will be introduced at the Open House.  The new diplomas are:

• Diploma in Environmental Science by School of Applied Science
• Diploma in Micro and Nanotechnology by School of Engineering
• Diploma in Outdoor Adventure Learning by School of Sports, Health and Leisure
• Diploma in Design for Interactivity by School of Technology for the Arts
• Diploma in Interactive and Digital Media by School of Information and Communications Technology
• Diploma in Customer Relationship and Service Management by Centre for Innovation and Enterprise
• Diploma in Communication and Information Design by Centre for Culture and Communication
  
  

Some of the highlights at the Open House include:

• Lan War games – Get yourself in groups and the winning team will win up to 10 portable play stations. Runners-up team members will receive an exclusive optical mouse each.
• Eco-city - Visitors will get to experience the ambience of an eco-city as they move throughout the exhibit area. There are three backdrop screens that feature distant farm and natural landscapes. Enjoy the chirping sounds of birds and the sound of running water as you enjoy the serenity and technology behind it.  

• Engineering @ RP - Visitors can attempt to programme the robotic arm to mimic the putting of a golf ball using a laptop to control the arm movement and swing.
• Come play a life-sized ‘Cluedo’ game! - Solve a murder mystery in a realistic Chinese setting, complete with props and student actors and bring home some key learning points about Problem-Based Learning (PBL).
• Who’s the DJ? – Enjoy the moment and spin music like a club pro.
