SPORTS AND LEISURE COURSES IN
SINGAPORE

Nine new courses launched targeting the growth industries of the future

The Republic Polytechnic today announced nine exciting new courses would commence this year to equip students with the skills needed to succeed in the growth industries of tomorrow.

Among the new courses to be offered are the first “Sports, Health and Leisure” courses ever offered in Singapore in a dedicated Sports School.

Mr Low Teck Seng, Principal and CEO of the Republic Polytechnic said the courses prepare students now for the challenges they will face in their future careers.

“The new School of Sports, Health and Leisure will provide courses in the booming leisure and lifestyle industries. The skills students will learn vary from sports administration through to major event management.”

“With exciting leisure developments including the Integrated Resorts underway in Singapore, graduates of these courses will play a valuable role in making these projects a success,” Mr Low said.

More recently, the Government announced that three sectors – the biomedical sciences, environmental and water technologies and interactive and digital media – would be targeted in the next stage of our push to make Singapore a knowledge based economy.

Over the next decade, the country will double the employment and triple the value-add in these three sectors which currently provide about 40,000 jobs with value-added of $8.9 billion.

“New courses such as the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Diploma in Sonic Arts are tailored to cater to this development. Republic Polytechnic -with its unique Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach – will give students the edge when it come to securing jobs in these exciting industries,” Mr Low added.

The nine new courses are:

School of Engineering

  • Diploma in Aerospace Avionics
  • Diploma in Supply Chain Management

School of Applied Science

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences

School of Information and Communications Technology

  • Diploma in Information Technology Service Management

School of Technology for the Arts

  • Diploma in Sonic Arts
  • Diploma in Technology and Arts Management

School of Sports, Health and Leisure

  • Diploma in Sports & Exercise Sciences
  • Diploma in Sports & Leisure Management
  • Diploma in Integrated Events Management


The new courses represent the biggest increase in the institution’s syllabus since it opened in 2003, and brings the total number of educational qualifications offered by Republic Polytechnic to 20.
