REPUBLIC POLYTECHNIC’s 3rd GRADUATION CEREMONY HAS THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF AWARD RECIPIENTS

Singapore, 26 March 2007 – Republic Polytechnic celebrated the success of its graduates at the third graduation ceremony at its state-of-the-art theatre, The Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC). 12 diplomas were awarded to 1551 graduates from 4 schools – School of Applied Science, School of Engineering, School of Information & Communications Technology, and School of Technology for the Arts whose graduates would be the first batch to graduate with a Diploma in New Media.

The RP Mace and graduation gown, introduced last year, will make their appearance again. The Mace symbolises academic rigour and integrity. The graduation gown, which was designed by a graduate, will have 4 colour hoods representing the 4 schools with graduands at this ceremony – pink for the School of Applied Science, blue for the School of Engineering, orange for the School of Information Technology, and purple for School of Technology for the Arts.

This year’s graduation ceremony has the largest number of best performance award recipients. The seven recipients are:

LEE KUAN YEW AWARD FOR MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE

The Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science is presented to the graduate with the most outstanding performance in mathematics and science modules. This year’s recipients are Alwis Priyangi Anupama, Alex Sharma and Lin Muchong who graduate with Diploma in Biomedical Sciences, Diploma in Information Technology, and Diploma in Biomedical Sciences respectively.

TAY ENG SOON GOLD MEDAL

The Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal is presented to the most outstanding graduate who has advanced from an Institute of Technical Education. This year’s recipient is Woo Wee Phuay who graduates with a Diploma in Biomedical Electronics.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS AWARD

The Board of Governors Award is presented to the graduate with the best overall performance in both academic and non-academic domains at RP. This year’s recipients are Warnakulasooriya Upeka Thilini Fernando, Lee Hong Rui Raymond and Dendapani Ravisankar who graduate with Diploma in Communications and Automation Electronics, Diploma in Biomedical Sciences, and Diploma in Communications and Automation Electronics respectively.
