ACHIEVING A ZERO EFFLUENT COMMUNITY IN SINGAPORE
Republic Polytechnic’s inaugural ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY DAY 2008 conference features new and special student/staff projects targeted at industry leaders and statutory boards
Republic Polytechnic (RP), the tertiary institution that approaches education through learning with a difference, will play host to more than 100 conservation-minded representatives from government, academia, industry and tertiary institutions at its inaugural Environmental Technology Day 2008 to be held at RP’s Lecture Theatre E5 on 10th September 2008. The Guest of Honour is Dr Amy Khor, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Environment and Water Resources. The event is a platform for sharing of ideas and research on how Singapore can achieve first mover status on achieving a zero effluent community. Taking the lead in this green initiative will be the CEO’s of Ecovac, Furon Oil Technologies and National Parks Board. They will demonstrate their commitment to preserving the environment, through the creative use of technology to recycle food, oil and wood wastes, by signing a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with RP that day.
Mr Howard Shaw, executive director of Singapore Environmental Council will be the keynote speaker. He will share his thoughts on “Trends in Environmental Technology”. Other prominent speakers include Mr. Allan Lim Yee Chian, CEO Alpha Synovate, and Mr Chew Sin Hwa, managing director of Furon Oil Technologies speaking on: Commercialisation of Environmental technology – Translating Science into Successful Business.
One of the highlights of the conference is the interesting display by students and staff of sample research done within RP’s environmental R&D niche: “Converting Wastes to Resources so as to work towards Zero Effluent Community in Singapore”.
