The Magical Adventure of Lee Jie and Adam
Lee Jie and Adam were orphans. As they were poor and hungry most of the time, it was easy for the other children to bully them. They longed for many things and dreamed many dreams. They dreamed of a time when they would be rich and powerful and have enough to eat.
One day, they were playing in a lush green forest. They wandered this way and that, enjoying all that they could see and hear… birds and butterflies, strange insects and unusual plants. But when it was time to go back, they found they were lost!
It was getting dark and - Ahh!! grumble grumble! - their tummies rumbled with hunger!
"Hey! Look what I have found!" Adam said as he grabbed Lee Jie's hand and pointed…
There, in front of them, was an old sign. It looked as though it had been there for many years. It was covered with spider webs and had roots growing all over it! They peered at the writing. It said - "DO NOT EAT THE FOOD ON THE TABLE!"
Lee Jie and Adam scratched their heads and wondered what it meant. They went further.
Soon they reached the fence of a mysterious looking hut with lots and lots of mouth- watering food on a wooden table outside the door of the hut!
"We’ve found food!" – Adam shouted.
"No wait! The sign told us not to eat it, remember?" - Lee Jie murmured.
"I don't care! I am really too tired to walk any further. I would rather die with a stomach full of food than of hunger. Let's go get a bite of that roasted chicken!" – Adam replied.
Adam arrived at the table like a flash of light!
He had just twisted out the chicken drumstick and bit it, when there was a puff of smoke, and a wizard appeared in front of them!
"HOW DARE YOU STEAL MY FOOD!!" he roared.
He cast a spell on them so they lay flat on their backs as stiff and straight as rulers.
Then the tall, freaky wizard picked them up by their waists, carried them into a hut, and tossed them into the cage of skeletons!
"YOU STOLE MY FOOD! NOW I WILL EAT YOU, AS FOOD!"
The moment they were thrown into the cage, the spell wore off and they were able to move!
Lee Jie and Adam saw the Wizard preparing a pot of smelly black gooey liquid. They pinched their noses!
Then Adam whispered, “Let’s try to break our way out by running the cage against the wall.”
One… two… three!” They managed to topple the cage and rolled it against the wall.
"It is useless.." sneered the Wizard "The cage is covered with magic, it does not break unless you break my evil spells! HAHHAHAHA!"
BAMM! They smashed into the wall, yet the cage did not have a scratch on it!
But, from a little shelf on the wall just above, two metal lamps dropped on them. They looked like very small kettles: one was shiny white and the other frosty blue.
Adam took both the lamps and tried to extinguish the fire before it burnt them. To his surprise, two very bright lights flew out of the lamps!
Each of the lights turned into a very beautiful girl.
The two lamp spirits seemed very relieved. They introduced themselves, “We are Princesses of the Sky and Sea kingdoms and have been trapped for a long, long time!”
The moment they caught sight of the wizard, they cast magical spells. Water came rushing in from the window, and the wind started howling outside the hut!
The wizard was caught in the storm before he knew it – with the wind blowing strongly and water gushing around him, the princesses trapped him in a water ball.
They sucked out the wizard's power but it was not easy. The wizard was too strong to be easily controlled, and the ball began to glow with the energy released. Then the ball of extremely bright red light flew and fell on Lee Jie and Adam. They fell down stunned. However, the wizard was killed.
From then on, Lee Jie and Adam became great and powerful kings that did not let their people go hungry! And Lee Jie married the sky princess and Adam married the Ocean princess.
