Fourth Graduation Ceremony at Republic Polytechnic
The biggest graduation ceremony yet for Republic Polytechnic with 2106 graduands receiving diploma certificates over two days

SINGAPORE, 7 April, 2009 – Republic Polytechnic (RP), the tertiary institution that approaches learning with a difference, is awarding  2106 diploma certificates to graduands at its Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC) over two days. Today, the School of Sports, Health and Leisure (SHL), and School of Hospitality (SOH) also produced their first batch of graduates.

Daniel Balamurugan S/O Arivan, Diploma in Supply Chain Management, receives the Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal for being the most outstanding graduate who has advanced from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE). Daniel is the first Polytechnic graduate of Indian ethnicity to capture the award. Previously, Nathakumaran S/O Ponnusamy received the award in 2004 at ITE West (Bukit Batok). Established in 1993 by ITE and the five Polytechnics, the Tay Eng Soon Scholarship Fund is supported by numerous employers, friends and members of the public in honour of the late Dr Tay Eng Soon, who was formerly the Chairman of ITE and Minister-in-Charge of technical and polytechnic education. The Fund was established to promote technical education and training through the provision of scholarship awards, as well as the sponsoring of seminars, symposia and other activities relevant to technical and polytechnic education.

Three graduands are presented with the top Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science for their outstanding academic results throughout their studies at the Polytechnic. They are Lam Zhao Yang, Diploma in Information Technology Service Management (DSM), Cheong Baoling, Diploma in Business Applications, and Ang Jin Long Eugene, Diploma in Sports and Exercise Sciences.

Five graduands are presented with the Board of Governors Award for having excelled both academically and in Student Life Activities (SLA). They are Chew Yixian, Eunice, Diploma in Technology and Arts Management, Fang Weili, Willie, Diploma in Information Technology, Jelisa Lin Mingrui, Diploma in Biomedical Sciences, Joni, Diploma in Integrated Events Management, Leong Jiawen, Kelvin, Diploma in Information Technology, and Lim May Ching, Caryn, Diploma in Integrated Events Management.
