The Future Store – where technology and service converge (by School of Engineering)

With the advent of RFID and other smart store technologies, modern in-store shopping is easier and more fun than the traditional “peer and pick” retail experience. Radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, which wirelessly transmit information such as product pricing, expiry dates, etc. are (finding) their way into our stores and malls. While most retailers know that RFID is the foundation for efficient management of their retail supply chain only a minority have thought about how it can be utilized directly to enhance and revolutionize the shopping experience.

The FUTURE STORE from Republic Polytechnic hopes to give a sneak peek into this revolutionary shopping experience by exhibiting RFID-enabled Shopping Cart and Secure Credit Card technologies for the public to come along and experience. The Store will also display Republic Polytechnic’s very own food products incorporating nutraceuticals.
