SECTION VIII: GUIDELINES & TYPE OF ONLINE DATABASES FOR INCLUSION


1. Electronic books

  • Subscription based on per title or per ebook online database.
  • List of e-book titles should be updated at least monthly.
  • E-books based on title subscription should allow for ad hoc swooping of titles when required.
  • Searching capabilities include by title, author, publisher, keywords, and subject.
  • Browsing option of titles/subject should be included.
  • Basic and advance search options should be available.
  • Search help/tips should be available.
  • Content pages should be hyperlinked to main text.
  • Alerts on content updates should be provided.
  • Administrator rights to user’s account should be provided.

2. Electronic Journals

  • Print version not available in library collection.
  • Archives/back files of up to 4 years or more should be made available.
  • Searching capabilities include by title (of periodical or article, author, publisher, keywords, subject (where applicable).
  • Browsing option of titles/subject should be available.
  • Abstracts of articles should be available.
  • Full text of articles should be available most of the time.
  • Basic and advance search options should be available.
  • Search help/tips should be available.
  • Alerts on content updates should be provided.
  • Administrator rights to user’s account should be provided.

3. Online Quick References
These materials are acquired to provide remote quick reference informational needs and research support within the RP network.

  • Online encyclopedia.
  • Online dictionary.
  • Online statistical reports.
  • Other Reference materials not easily available on the Internet.

4. Online Newspapers
Refers to the online version of major local newspapers. Newspapers that cover regional or international interests are not considered currently due to non-relevancy to curriculum. This will be reviewed when demand warrants.
