APPENDIX A: COPYRIGHT ISSUES

Online

All use of online databases subscribed or made accessible by RP Library follows IPOS in their statement of Copyright on the Internet and Hyper-linking which states that:

  1. Copyright materials sent over the Internet or stored on web servers are treated in the same manner as copyright material in other media. The fact that they are made available on the Internet does not constitute a waiver of copyright nor does it carry any implied license for anyone to download or reproduce the material without the permission of the copyright owner.
  2. Generally, linking may not be infringing if it does not implicate any of the exclusive rights given to copyright owners. Otherwise, it would constitute an infringement

The Republic Polytechnic Library complies with all provisions of the Singapore Copyright Act (Chapter 63) and its revisions. The library supports the Fair Dealings in Relation to Work (section 35) which permits and protects staff and students’ rights to reproduce and make use of copyrighted material for the purposes of research or study only.

General
Anyone who wishes to reproduce a work beyond the exceptions of the Copyright Act, are to get permission from the publishers and/or authors or the respective authors' or publishers' associations or pay the requisite royalties to them.

It is the responsibility of staff to inform and educate students on the boundaries of the copyright act and not to allow students to download or copy past the limit in the name of Research and Study.

Please be warned that if your copying exceed the limits allowed under the Copyright Act, the Polytechnic will not be liable for any infringement of copyright action which may be taken against you. In that event, you will be personally liable.
