SECTION XI: GIFTS AND DONATIONS


Acceptance of gift materials are at the discretion of the Library staff who must consider all aspects of this collection development policy including usefulness, collection scope, library space, processing cost and gift value.

Donations are made with the understanding and agreement that the donated material becomes the legal property of the Library. The library may use, keep, or dispose of materials at its discretion.

Material that is to be added to the collection will be an integral part of the Library’s collections and will be available to all patrons in accordance with the rules and regulations for borrowing.

Gifts of special collections requiring separate housing or special handling are rarely accepted and must be approved by the polytechnic management.

NLB Legal Deposit and Donating of RP Materials
1. RP Library abides with the Singapore’s Legal Deposit guidelines which state that “two copies of every Singapore publication, have to be deposited with the National Library” (http://deposit.nl.sg/LDNet-web/faces/legal_deposit_050907_rgb2.pdf / http://deposit.nl.sg/LDNet-web/faces/home.jsp).  RP-related materials may be sent to Singapore Legal Deposit through RP Library.  

2. Additional copies or such other publications for NLB libraries may be donated through RP Library.  This will be evaluated by RP Library. Copies for NLB would be marked “With compliments - for Gift and Exchange Dept/NLB”. It would be sent by RP Library under the “Reworks” section for its weekly despatch.
