FAQ ON CLASS SCHEDULES AND UNDERSTANDING TESTS

1. HOW DO I KNOW WHICH GROUP MY MODULE IS IN?

The exact categorization of modules into Groups A, B, C, D and E will be shown in LEO.

2. I'M IN YEAR 2 NOW AND I HAVE TO RETAKE A YEAR 1 MODULE. DOES THIS MEAN THAT I WILL NOT START CLASS THE SAME TIME EVERYDAY?

Every module will be categorized into different groups (i.e. Group A, B, C, D or E). You will have to follow the class schedule, depending on which group that your module falls in. Most Year 1 modules will fall in Group A with the day’s lesson beginning at 8:30 a.m.. Hence, you may have classes starting at a different time daily.

3. HOW MANY DAILY GRADES (DGS) ARE CONSIDERED FOR MY FINAL MODULE GRADE?

All fifteen (15) daily assessment grades and the 3 understanding test grades that a student has obtained for a module shall contribute to form the final grade awarded for the module.

4. DO ALL 3 UNDERSTANDING TESTS HAVE THE SAME DURATION?

No. For UT1 and UT2, the duration of the test is 45 minutes each. For UT3, the duration of the test will be between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the module.

5. WILL THERE BE UNDERSTANDING TEST 4?

There will only be three (3) Understanding Tests for each module. All these 3 Understanding Tests are compulsory and will be considered in the computation of the final grade for the module. The relative weightage of the 3 Understanding Tests are as follows: UT1 : UT2 : UT3 = 1 : 1 : 2 (UT1 and UT2 will have the same weightage while UT3 will have a heavier weightage).

A student may be eligible to sit for a supplementary UT (UT 4) if certain conditions are satisfied. Please click here to find out more about supplementary UT eligibility.

6. IS THE UNDERSTANDING TEST AN "OPEN BOOK" TEST?

Unless there are special instructions given by the Module Chair, students may refer to notes or other resources stored in their notebook computers. For more details, please refer to the Understanding Test instructions of each Module as provided by the Module Chair.

7. CAN MEDICAL CERTIFICATE BE CONSIDERED AS LEAVE OF ABSENCE (LOA)?

Yes, regular Medical Certificates are considered as Leave of Absence (LOA). Please refer to Leave of Absence for more details on the LOA application process for Medical Certificates involving UT.

8. HOW SHOULD I GO ABOUT INFORMING THE SCHOOL ABOUT MY LEAVE OF ABSENCE AND HOW DO I KNOW THAT I QUALIFY TO TAKE THE SUPPLEMENTARY UT?

Kindly refer to Leave of Absence for the LOA application process for Medical Certificates involving UT. Once the Leave of Absence has been approved by the LOA Panel, the respective Module Chair will inform the student of his/her eligibility for the Supplementary UT through the student’s RP email account.

9. IF I HAVE MISSED ONLY 1 UT AND HAVE LEAVE OF ABSENCE (LOA) FOR THIS UT, WILL I BE ABLE TO TAKE THE SUPPLEMENTARY UT?

Students who missed only UT1 (with LOA) or missed only UT2 (with LOA) will NOT be eligible to take the Supplementary UT. However, the student will be eligible for the Supplementary UT if the student missed (a) UT1 (with LOA) and UT2 (with LOA); or (b) UT3 (with LOA). Please refer to the table under Supplementary Understanding Test for more details.

10. WHEN WILL THE SUPPLEMENTARY UNDERSTANDING TEST BE HELD ON?

The Supplementary Understanding Test is expected to be held soon after Understanding Test 3. The Module Chair in conjunction with ORG will decide on the date for the Supplementary UT and provide the affected students with details (date, time, venue and other UT instructions) of the Supplementary UT through email. The affected students are advised to check their RP email account and keep a look-out for the email communication by the Module Chair with regard to the Supplementary UT.

11. IF I MISSED ANY UT WITHOUT ANY LEAVE OF ABSENCE (LOA), WHAT WILL MY GRADE BE?

Absence from any of the UTs without LOA will result in a failure (i.e., given an "X" grade and zero score) for that UT. Only students with approved Leave of Absence will be considered for taking the Supplementary UT. Otherwise, students are not allowed to take the Supplementary UT.

12. HOW WILL THE UT COMPONENT OF MY MODULE GRADE BE COMPUTED IF I MISSED ANY UT WITH LEAVE OF ABSENCE (LOA)?

If a student misses a UT with approved LOA, the UT component of the Module Grade will be computed based on the relative weightage of the UT(s) taken. For example, if a student misses UT1 and has taken UT2 and UT3, the UT component of the Module Grade will be based on 1 : 2 (UT2 : UT3) for the 2 UTs taken. Please refer to the table under Supplementary Understanding Test for more details on the relative weightage of the UTs.
