FAQs on Examination Results

Q: What is GPA?

A: GPA stands for Grade Point Average.

Q: How is GPA computed?

A: GPA is computed in a cumulative way by summing up the grade point achieved for each of the graded module taken and dividing the summed grade points by the total number of graded modules taken. For example, a student who has taken 5 graded modules and accumulated 15 points would have a GPA of 3.0. Note that for a repeated module, the average grade point of all attempts for that module will be used for GPA computation.

Q: Do I need to re-take a module if I score a “D” or “D+”?

A: With effect from AY2011, students with a score of “D” or “D+” would have passed the module and hence, do not need to re-take the module.

Q: Do I need to re-take a module if I score a “F”?

A: Yes.

Q: When can I retake the module that I failed in?

A: You can take retake the module whenever it is offered in a subsequent semester.

Q: What happens if I fail in the re-take again?

A: If this is a General, Discipline or Specialization Module, you are required to re-take the module until you pass. If this is a prescribed elective module, you can choose to retake the module for one more time; if you fail in the retake for the second time, you will have to choose another module.

Q: Do I have to pay for the retake of module?

A: No.

Q: How will I know my results for the semester?

A: You may access SASS for your results. If you require a printed copy of your results to date, you may request it via Students E-Services.

Q: WHAT IS “MODULE CREDIT”?

A: Every module carries some modular credits (MC) to illustrate the intensity of that module. As an example, a student who obtains a pass (i.e. grade “D” and above) in a module that carries 4 MCs will attain 4 MCs and a student who scored “F” for that module will attain 0 MC.
