UNDERSTANDING TEST (UT) RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS
Warning: Any student caught infringing any of the UT Rules and Regulations in any way is liable to disciplinary action including, but not limited to, an outright failure for the UT and downgrading of the Module Grade. More severe penalties which can be imposed on a student caught cheating in a UT include suspension or even dismissal from the polytechnic. 1. In a semester, a student who misses four (4) or more of his/her assigned classes without approved Leave of Absence (LOA) in a module will not be allowed to sit for his/her Understanding Test 3 (UT3) and supplementary test for that module. A zero grade point will be assigned to his/her UT3 and/or supplementary test grade for that module. 2. Students with improper footwear (e.g., slippers -footwear without back or heel strap) will not be allowed to sit for their Understanding Test (UT)s. 3. It is the responsibility of students to ensure that their notebook computers are in good functioning order, and that they have the latest version of the UT Client installed. Each student is required to ensure that the computer in possession has uninterrupted power supply throughout the UT. 4. A student is not allowed to take or attempt to take the UT at a location other than his/her assigned UT venue, unless authorised to do so. A student may begin the UT only when given the UT Key by the invigilator. A student is not allowed to pass on or receive the UT Key without authorisation. Students should have their RP student identification cards with them at all times during a UT and present them for inspection when requested. 5. Students should report to their respective assigned UT venue at least 15 minutes before the UT start time. A student who fails to report on time may be allowed to take the UT but if such a student requires special assistance he/she shall bear the responsibility for any delays which may arise. A student who arrives at the UT venue 15 minutes or more after the UT start time will be prohibited from taking the UT. A student must stop working on the UT when the invigilator declares that the UT has ended, regardless of the time shown on their own UT Client. No extra time will be allowed for any students who started late. 6. Unless there are special instructions given by the Module Chair, students may refer to any notes or other resources stored in their notebook computers and may use electronic calculators and electronic dictionaries during the UT, but students may not have any written materials with them during the UT. If students are allowed to refer to materials stored on their notebook computers during the UT, then a student who takes his/her UT on paper will also be allowed to refer to materials stored on his/her notebook computer. Students may have a blank piece of paper (no larger than A4 size) for rough working, but such paper will not be accepted for submission at the end of the UT. Sharing of materials (e.g. electronic calculator) during the UT is strictly prohibited. 7. All personal belongings not required for the UT, including handphones, headphones and earphones, should be located outside direct personal reach and placed inside bags. 8. A student taking a UT is not allowed to communicate with any person other than the invigilator. Apart from using the necessary UT Client and UT Agent software, students are not allowed to use their notebook computers to connect to any other device, computer or network. All communication software on the notebook computer, such as internet browsers, IM clients and email programs, must be shut down during the UT. All other communication devices, storage devices and accessories, such as thumb drives, portable hard disks, Bluetooth devices and other wireless communication devices, must be removed from the notebook computer (or deactivated if cannot be removed) and kept away. 9. Students must observe silence at all times while the UT is in progress. Students must not make any noise or otherwise distract any student who is taking the UT. 10. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that his/her answers are correctly saved by the UT Client before leaving the UT venue. At the end of the UT, each student is to click on “View Local Answer” to verify that his/her answers are correctly saved. 11. Students may not leave the class during the first and last 15 minutes of the duration of the UT. At other times, a student may leave the class only with the permission of the invigilator. A student may be allowed to use the toilet in an emergency but only if escorted by an assigned invigilator. A student allowed to complete the UT early must show that the UT Client session has been successfully submitted and must then immediately leave the UT venue without causing any distraction to other students. 12. Any student suspected of cheating will be reported to the Module Chair, who will initiate disciplinary proceedings against the student. Any student helping or attempting to help another student to cheat will be regarded as if the student was cheating. Issued by ORG. Last revised 18 April 2011. |
