Q1: Who is eligible to apply for tuition fees subsidies from Mendaki?

A: All Malay students who have had free secondary and pre-university education and whose monthly family income does not exceed $3,000 qualify for the subsidy.

Q2: How much subsidy will an eligible student receive from Mendaki?

A: There are two categories of subsidy:

  • 100% subsidy for those whose monthly family income is $2,000 and below
  • 70% subsidy for those whose monthly family income is between $2,000 and $3,000.

Q3: What is the "monthly family income"?

A: The monthly family income includes the gross incomes of parents/guardians and unmarried brothers and sisters who are living in the same household. This does not include married brothers and sisters and other relatives, even if they stay at the same address.

The gross monthly income of each family member includes only the basic income and Monthly Variable Component (MVC) or National Wage Council (NWC) or NPC or NPVP or related monthly component. It excludes all other allowances such as overtime, leave allowances, transport allowance, bonuses etc.

To summarise:

Gross Monthly Income = Basic Income + MVC or NWC or NPC or NPVP Allowances or related monthly component

Q4: How do I apply for the Mendaki Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy?

A: You can only apply at the start of each academic year during the application period. Please complete the application form and submit it to Republic Polytechnic. Newly-enrolled students can submit it during enrolment while higher year students can submit it to the One-Stop Centre.

Q5: Do I still have to pay any fees if my application for the Mendaki Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy is approved?

A: Yes, you have to pay for the annual supplementary fees as this is not covered by Mendaki. In addition, students who are receiving 70% subsidy from Mendaki have to pay the remaining 30% of the fees. You can apply for other financial schemes to cover this 30% of the fees.
