Republic Rugby (IG) Wins DOUBLE this Year

Singapore, 24th October 2011 - Republic Rugby (IG) has defended its title as champions of the POL-ITE rugby competition. This year, the Rugby POL-ITE 2011 competition was held at Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex. With home ground advantage, the men from RP rugby team were keen to not disappoint their supporters. They put up a strong performance and secured the championship with one match to spare.

Ramadevan Viarakanu also led the team to victory at the inaugural RP-SRU 10s (Inter-Varsity) Championship. New additions to the team, Mohd Saifuludin, Jay-Hykel, Marah Ishraf and Neezham have also made a huge impact on the team.

The team trained intensively for three months before the POL-ITE competition, to prepare themselves for 4 physical games against Temasek Polytechnic (TP), Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP).

This has been the first time RP has won the POL-ITE competition for 2 successive seasons. They are looking forward to retain the title again next year and make it a treble for the first time ever in RP's history.

Abdul Razis, Mohd Haziq, Mohd Sufi, Russell Wong, Muhd Izwan, Afeeq Radzi and Mohd Hafidz also gave their everything on the field as it was their last year at RP. This win would not have been possible without our Coach Harry Mason and the great support from our advisors Glen O'Grady and Fazilah Latiff. The RP rugby team would also like to thank the supporters who took time to lend their support to the RP rugby players.
