1. How are students informed when their school fees are due?
An invoice will be sent near the start of each semester via email to all students. The invoice will include details of school fees, payment due date, methods of payment, etc. In addition, weekly email reminders will be sent to notify students of any outstanding school fees.
2. Why are you sending the tax invoice to my child and not to me, since I am the one paying the fees?
Republic Polytechnic operates as an Institute of Higher Learning (IHL), similar to a university. As an IHL, unlike secondary schools, all official communications are directed to the student. All such communications to students are sent to the email account issued to each student by RP during the course enrolment.
All students are regarded as adults who are responsible for themselves. The students are expected to make the necessary arrangements to ensure timely payment of their school fees. They are encouraged to share any school-related information with their parents. It is the responsibility of all students to check their RP email account regularly as this is the official mode of contact between the school and the students.
3. What is the Tuition Grant Scheme?
The Tuition Grant scheme is set up by the MOE to subsidize the high cost of a student’s tertiary education in Singapore. Students only pay the difference between the total cost of tertiary education and the Tuition Grant - a nominal sum in relation to the recurrent cost of providing such an education.
4. How can my child apply for the Tuition Grant?
For Singapore Citizens: Application for the Tuition Grant is by submitting the Tuition Grant form during enrolment. For Singapore PRs and International students: Eligible applicants among those newly enrolled in 2008 should have submitted their application for Tuition Grant online via www.myrp.sg/sa by 9 April 08. Any student who has successfully submitted an application should have received a notification via email to be physically present with the sureties at the RP campus to sign the Tuition Grant agreement on 21 April 08. Please note that students are required to pay full tuition fees if they did not receive the Tuition Grant.
5. If my child had applied for various financial schemes; in which order of priority will his/her tuition fees be paid?
The order of priority of the financial schemes is as follows (subjected to the student’s application): Firstly, Mendaki, followed by PSEA, CPF funds, Tuition Fee Loan, Study Loan Component A , and then lastly GIRO deduction/NETS/Cash/Cheque Payment (if any outstanding balance remains).
6. What must I take note of if I am using my CPF savings to pay for my child’s tuition fees?
You should ensure enough funds in your CPF Ordinary account one month before the school term starts. This is to ensure successful deduction for your child’s tuition fees on the stipulated deduction date, which your child will be informed of. Should the deduction is unsuccessful/partial, your child will have to settle the fees via other financial assistance schemes or cash/NETS/cheque/GIRO (if applicable).
7. Are there any Scholarships/bursaries for students to apply?
Yes. For more information, please visit the Office of the Registrar website.
8. What is the penalty if my child does not pay outstanding dues by the stipulated deadline?
Your child may be denied access to LEO, the online learning portal. The school also reserves the right to withhold the Academic Transcript from students who have outstanding fees, and also restrict them from viewing their academic results and the timetable.
9. If my child withdraws/defers, does he still need to pay school fees?
The fees charged depends on when he submits his application for withdrawal/deferment. Please visit the Office of the Registrar website for details on applicable school fees in the event of withdrawal/deferment.
