RP Orientation Programme 2008
Curiosity, excitement, uncertainty. These were just some of the emotions experienced by RP’s new intake of close to 5,000 students during the start of the three-day Orientation Programme held on 2 April 2008.

Centre for Innovation and Enterprise

The Centre for Innovation and Enterprise (CIE) aims to nurture innovative mindsets and instill lifelong skills that will allow students to flourish in the business arena.

This is done through our unique One-Day, One-ProblemTM Problem-Based Learning approach in our education pedagogy. CIE offers Enterprise Skills 1 and Enterprise Skills 2 for all first-year students in Republic Polytechnic (RP). These two compulsory core modules aim to give students a basic understanding of how to manage interpersonal relationships and new business start-ups in the work environment.

For students interested to further their business knowledge, CIE also supports and offers a host of other business elective modules to higher-year students from the various Schools and Centres in RP. Examples include Sales Management, Marketing, Consumer Psychology, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Business and Cyber Law, Human Resource Management, Business Finance, etc.

Besides classroom learning, CIE has also created a number of platforms for students that will expose them to real business world where they get a chance to hone their business skills. These include the Student.Urbane.Initiative! (SUI!) and Market Research (MR) live labs. The former is a student co-op retail outlet within RP for students to gain firsthand experience in customer service in a retail environment. The latter is first-in-class laboratory setup to support R&D and curricular activities in RP. It will be completed by the end of 2008.

Students can also join the many business-related interest groups under CIE’s Young Aspirers Club. The club offers students the opportunity to organise bazaar fairs, hear insightful talks by well-known local entrepreneurs, go on excursions to external organisations, and participate in business competitions under the tutelage of CIE staff.
