| 1. What is the score to enter Republic Polytechnic? |
The SUBJECT-BASED MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS for each diploma can be found in each school’s individual site or JAE booklet. Some courses are more competitive than others and would have a lower cut off point. For example, the cut off point for Diploma in Sonic Arts for AY06/07 is 18, while the cut off point for Diploma in Supply Chain Management is 26. If students who score better than you apply, they will be given the available slot first. So it would be wiser to study hard and score well!

| 2. Can I get into RP if I score a D7 for English? |
You will still be eligible for most of RP’s courses if you manage to score a D7 for English. However, please check the minimum entry requirements for each diploma as certain diplomas required a minimum of C6.

| 3. Is RP the only school that employs the use of PBL? |
RP is the only polytechnic in Singapore that fully implements PBL.

| 4. Is it true that there isn’t a need for textbooks? |
Textbooks are only one of the sources of information. In RP, we expose our students to many other sources of knowledge, such as information from the internet, magazine, research papers and even discussion with peers and facilitators. Should a student prefer garner information from a book, we have a large library which has a huge variety of books.

| 5. When did RP first commence classes? |
RP’s first batch of students commenced classes in 2003. In fact, our pioneering batch of students just graduated this year!

| 6. What courses in Republic Polytechnic requires a pass in Mathematics? |
All of our courses require at least a C6 in either E. Math or A. Math.

| 7. In what way is Republic Polytechnic special? |
RP’s unique education system makes us different from the other polytechnics. With our one-day-one-problem process and focus on teamwork, our students learn not by memorizing information, but by working with others in the class and finding things out for themshelves.

| 8. What bio-related courses can we take if we do not take biology in the ‘O’ Levels? |
An ‘O’ level student is eligible for all bio-related courses even if (s)he did not take biology. (S)he is only required to pass English, Math, any science subject and 2 other subjects. For details please refer to the entry requirement for each diploma.

| 10. Do you offer courses on Graphics Design or Visual Communication? |
RP’s School of Technology for the Arts offers a diploma in New Media. There are 3 specialisation tracks available for the diploma – Digital Visualisation, Media & Creative Enterprise and Game Design & Technology. If you choose to specialise in Digital Visualisation, you will be given the opportunity to take modules like Digital Graphics Design and 3D Modeling & Rendering. | 13. What is the cut-off point for Diploma in Biomedical Science? |
The cut off point varies from year to year depending on the calibre of students who apply for the course and the number of vacancies available. For AY06/07, the cut off point for Diploma in Biomedical Science is 20.

| 14. What are the courses that require interviews, tests etc for entry? |
If you apply for any course in RP via JAE, you will not be required to attend any interview or tests. An interview is only required if you are applying through JPSAE.

| 15. Are there any instrumental groups we can join? What about opportunities to form an instrumental consort? |
There are many interest groups (IGs) in RP. These include the string ensemble and Chinese orchestra. For those who like rock music, a suitable IG would be the Jammerz Arena, a rock band IG. Within these IGs, you’ll get to make friends and perhaps form your own small performing group (consort).

| 16. What are my career prospects in New Media? |
Advertising; animation; digital media; graphic design; interior design; performing arts; photography; production; publishing; software design; sound engineering; video arts; voice engineering, to name a few.

| 17. If we want to be wedding consultants, what course must we take (other than business)?
|
I would like to suggest that you think hard about what skills wedding consultants ought to have before making a decision as to whether you should take up a diploma course. Find time to discuss with your career guidance teacher and come to RP for a chat during Open House or email us.

| 18. Do the facilitators really stay up until 11.59pm to wait for their students to hand in their assignments |
Our students don’t have homework to do. However, they are required to send in a daily reflection journal entry. The reflection journal (RJ) entry allows them to think about the processes of the day and how they may improve in the next class. These RJs are submitted online and the time of submission is reflected. Hence the facilitators don’t have to stay up until 11.59pm to wait for students to hand in their assignments.

| 19. Are there more girls or boys in the school? |
|
We have a healthy mix of boys and girls in the school. There is no dominant gender.
