You looked so happy
And I wondered why
I waited for an answer on why you didn’t cry

You asked if I had a father
And I told you his name
I also said you’ll grow into a beautiful lady
Who’ll never live in shame

And so I asked
“Are you happy?”
You said yes while smiling so sweetly

You never complained
And I played along

And I asked if I was the one who was missing something beautiful all along

You were always so thankful with the simple things in life
I felt like a fool for being one who never wants to strive

I cried in front of you
You told me to stop
Your hug gave me warmth
And I felt that I belong

So when I go back home
I will be thinking of you
The girl who asked if I had a father
The one running around without any shoes

When I hug him tomorrow
I’ll say the words ‘I love you’
These three words will never be shallow
And I’ll tell him that I was blessed to have met you.
