Linux desktop and Server Technologies
The Open Source TDC at
Republic Polytechnic aims to promote the adoption of Operating
System Desktop and Server solutions all over the world. The Open
Source TDC aims to look at interoperability and management
functionality to help Operating System users integrate into mixed
computing environments. Areas of development include server,
virtualization such as Xen and specialized Open Source Operating
System distribution development.
Embedded Linux
Linux, as an Open Source technology, has offered stability,
flexibility and customizability. Linux kernel can be tailored to
meet various embedded system development needs by allowing its
components to be customized. The availability of source codes allows
greater flexibility in reducing the footprint while improving
performance. The Open Source TDC is currently focused in developing
embedded solutions with ARM-based microprocessors.
Digital Rights Management (DRM)
In the coming years, the internet has gradually evolved into an
aggregation of large amounts of digital information. However, with
the greater ease in the facilitation and searching of digital
information such as music content, rampant piracy has evolved.
With the potential access to a global market, content owners have
stepped in to tap on the unlimited potential of the Internet as well
as to curb this piracy with technological and legal measures. One
such measure is Digital Rights Management (DRM).
DRM is basically an aggregation of security technologies to protect
the interests of the content owners so that they may maintain
persistent ownership and control of their content. A DRM system
essentially specifies, manages and enforces “rules” in all aspects
of the digital content, in particular, its usage and distribution.
At the Open Source Technology Development Centre in RP, we are
interested in leveraging on open source technologies, whenever
possible to develop cutting edge DRM solutions in partnership with
the industry and research institutions. |
