Drive Towards Ubiquitous Society RP-NEC Competency Centre (23rd January 2008)
Republic Polytechnic (RP) signed a collaboration agreement with NEC Asia on 23rd January 2008. With this agreement, the aims are to spearhead the development of applications for RFID technologies within the key manufacturing, logistics, retail and hospitality sectors in Singapore.

Guest of Honour for the event, Mr Png Cheong Boon, Deputy CEO, SPRING Singapore and distinguished guests from NEC, including Mr. Tomohiro Yagi, CEO of NEC Asia Pte. Ltd., Mr Tan Goh Beng, Managing Director of NEC Asia Pte. Ltd., attended this significant event. The agreement was officially signed by Mr. John Poon, Vice President, NEC Asia Pte. Ltd. and Mr Fong Yew Chan, Director, School of Engineering, Republic Polytechnic, and witnessed by Prof. Low Teck Seng, Prinicpal/CEO of Republic Polytechnic and Mr Yagi.
The “RP-NEC RFID Competency Centre”, a laboratory sited in RP, brings together NEC’s strength in RFID systems implementation and software development and RP’s capabilities in RFID-enabled supply chain management, design-of-experiments testing methodology for RFID and developing of innovative application specific RFID equipments. Supported by IDA, the lab will provide a comprehensive R&D and test-bedding facility for RFID applications.

This laboratory will be the most comprehensive and only joint academic and industry facility in Singapore for the testing of RFID solutions developed for application in manufacturing, logistics and retail. It is equipped with facilities that will allow practical hands-on training on RFID technologies and their applications for industry and also to support academic research & development and student training.
