LIBRARY OF THE FUTURE
RP and Wavex Technologies to develop the world’s FIRST complete Library experience using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
Singapore, 26 September 2007 – Republic Polytechnic today announced its latest technology collaboration project with Wavex Technologies, a leading RFID company to develop the first intelligent library test-bed project dedicated to the cause of library applications.
The joint collaboration project aims to achieve, through comprehensive research and development, a unique system that portraits how a library is to be like in 10 – 15 years time. The project will also lay the foundation of a digital library to provide a wholesome user experience, more efficient service and the availability of a wider range of resource materials, beyond what books and multi-media can offer.
The project will see RP’s library as the world’s first test-bed project. Based on user feedbacks and interactions, the project team will look into ideas on how to convert the library to a vibrant and intelligent environment, such as making infrastructure smart so that data can be mined and better resources can be catered and utilized.
Mr. Fong Yew Chan, Director, School of Engineering, Republic Polytechnic said, “With this collaboration, RP intends to be in the forefront of a groundbreaking system that could revolutionise the way libraries work and how the public can make better use of them. This project will also put all of RP’s technology capabilities to test so as to find a synergy with Wavex in creating a world’s first.”
Mr. Nick Lee Sheng Weng, Director, Sales and Business, Wavex Technologies Pte Ltd said, “This project will enable us to extend the use of RFID and hence, creating an avenue for us to try new ideas and concepts into making a smart and futuristic library environment.”
This joint collaborative project is expected to take up to two years and all works will be conducted in RP. -- END --
