On the 30th
Sep 2009, Republic Polytechnic (RP) launched the Wireless Technology Series
with a theme titled “Going Wireless for Better
Wellness and Lifestyle”. This seminar, supported by
The Institution of Engineers, Singapore
(IES), The Institution of Engineering
and Technology (IET) and
Singapore Industrial Automation Association (SIAA) aims to
bring together the industry, the academic and the research institutions to
network and share their experiences in the use of wireless technologies for
better wellness and lifestyle. This seminar also showcased the applications of
low power wireless technologies for the healthcare industry and how the use of
wireless sensor network can help improve our living.

In conjunction with this seminar, we also launched a joint laboratory with Texas
Instruments Singapore (Pte) Ltd – RP-TI Low Power Wireless Applications Joint
Laboratory. This will be TI’s first
such undertaking with a tertiary institution here, and will see the company
invest both its expertise as well as funding towards the laboratory, which will
boast state of the art equipment for development and testing. The lab is now
fully equipped with the necessary development kits and software to develop low
power wireless applications. TI will also conduct periodic training to staff and
students in RP either through workshops or talks and conduct seminars to share
its latest developments in a bid to sharpening the capability of the lab.

The seminar
included a keynote address by Mr. Lim Kwee Song (Managing Director, Texas
