About the Course

The World Bank ranked Singapore as Asia’s top logistics hub for 10 years in a row. Logistics is a key pillar contributor to Singapore's GDP and remains a critical growth area for the years to come. Today, Singapore is a prime location for major logistics firms, with the top 25 global players conducting operations here.  Career opportunities in this sector are plentiful.

This course aims to equip participants with specialised knowledge and skills in the field of supply chain management, including warehouse and inventory management, transportation operations and freight services, lean process, pharmaceutical and bio-chemical supply chain, and cold chain management, etc.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in simulation software, TradeNet application, Warehouse Management System (WMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), cold chain packaging and equipment, and Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID).

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  • Manage logistics operations including inventory, warehouse, freight and transport

  • Improve and optimise supply chain processes

  • Apply info-comm technologies in supply chain management

  • Manage integrated supply chain and specialised logistics

  • Develop solutions to enhance supply chain management

What is So Unique About This Programme?

The course is designed in alignment with the Skills Framework for Logistics, and it will equip participants with the knowledge and skills required by the industry.

How Often Do I Need to Attend the Course?

Lessons will be held once a week at Republic Polytechnic.
Course commences in October.

Work-Study Programme Partner for Specialist Diploma in Supply Chain Management

Participants will undergo a 12-month structured training programme including On-the-Job Training, instructor-led e-Learning / training, and company-based projects leading to a Specialist Diploma in Supply Chain Management.

Participants will be awarded the Post-Diploma Certificate (PDC) upon successful completion of each certificate programme. The Specialist Diploma in Supply Chain Management will be issued upon meeting 50%  of attendance requirement and passing the assessment criteria of both PDCs.

Module Synopses


1. Post-Diploma Certificate in Supply Chain Operations

The Post Diploma Certificate (PDC) aims to equip participants with the foundation of supply chain operations. Participants will learn inventory management, warehouse operations, transportation operations, freight services, and specialized logistics in cold chain management and pharmaceutical/bio-chemical supply chain management. 

This PDC consists of the following six modules: 

E2289C Warehouse Management and Operations

 
This module covers the principles of warehouse operations and its importance in supply chain management. These include warehouse planning and processes, material handling system selection, labour and cost requirements. Through these lessons, the module equips participants with skills to effectively manage the warehouse and distribution operations with benchmarking tools and awareness of the latest technology and development in this industry.

E1809C Transportation Management and Operations

 
This module aims to share an understanding on the concepts behind the practical and theoretical applications of transportation management and operations at local context, and the efficient management of industrial and transport logistics. Participants will learn concepts such as transportation management, last mile delivery, and hands-on use of IT tools for track and trace. 

E1819C Freight Services and Operations

 
This module aims to build student’s knowledge on various aspects of international freight services through a structured, consultative and interactive learning process using relevant case studies from the industry. It intends to equip participants with fundamental industrial knowledge as well as the practical skills needed to function effectively as a specialist in the international freight service industry.

E1829C Inventory Management

 
This module covers the basic principles in inventory management and aims to provide participants with a fundamental understanding of inventory control techniques, practices and technologies commonly adopted in the industry. This module enables and equips participants with the expertise to control and manage the inventory operations of different types of stocks.

E1839C Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

 
This module aims to build on participants’ knowledge of ERP fundamentals by providing the overview of ERP system as well as system navigation. Participants will also be introduced to the major business processes in the ERP system. Through the hands-on practices on Material Management (MM), Sales and Distribution (SD) and Production Planning (PP) modules in ERP system, participants will be equipped with the expertise necessary to perform the procurement, inventory management, sales and production related transactions. 

E2299C Pharmaceutical and Cold Chain Management

 
Through this module, participants will be introduced to Cold Chain management and Pharmaceutical/Dangerous Goods (DG) supply chain management. The topics in Cold Chain management cover cold chain operations, suitable technologies applied in Perishable and Temperature Sensitive Products logistics, and cold chain standards such as CCQI (Cold Chain Quality Indicator), HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) and ISO 22000:2005 - Food Safety Management System. The topics in Pharmaceutical/ Dangerous Goods supply chain management cover the applications of regulatory guideline, logistics handling of Pharmaceutical and DG products, and Good Distribution Practices (GDP). 

 

2. Post Diploma Certificate in Supply Chain Processes Improvement

The Post Diploma Certificate aims to equip participants with integrated logistics solutioning and process improvement. Participants will learn how to apply process improvement techniques and technologies to plan, implement and manage the integrated supply chain. 

This PDC consists of the following four modules: 

E2479C Lean Processes and Simulation

 
This module imparts concepts on process improvement and analysis methods. Participants will learn Lean topics such as value-streamed mapping, setting of SOPs and KPIs and work balancing to effectively improve and balance organizational work processes. In addition, the module introduces the use of simulation to study complex systems. Through hands-on sessions, participants will be taught simulation modelling of service processes, material flow and automation systems. The techniques learnt will enable participants to make effective, data-based decisions on process re-designs and systems implementation.

E2489C Supply Chain IT

 
This module covers infocomm concepts which are critical to the Supply Chain industry. The module covers the following aspects: information analytics, internet, information architecture and cyber security. Participants will be equipped with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively work in the industry. This module equips the participants with Info-comm concepts, data analysis, visualisation and geospatial techniques, cloud computing and e-business technology, collaboration and IOT technology and knowledge in information security.

E2499C Supply Chain Design and Management

 
This module covers the fundamentals of strategic design and effective management of global supply chain. The participants will learn about the best in class supply chain practices and design strategies being deployed in various industries. This module builds up participants’ knowledge of supply chain fundamentals by strengthening their ability to analyse the current practices and develop improvement alternatives. The participants will develop an understanding on strategies, techniques and best in class practices, which can be adopted to improve the operations in respective verticals. 

E3249C Capstone Project

 
Participants will undertake an individual project to apply what they have learnt and deepen their understanding in the supply chain management related topics of interest.

WSP Eligibility

Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents who are:

  • within three years of graduation from the Polytechnics or the Operational Ready Date (ORD) for full-time National Servicemen, or
  • within five years of graduation from the Polytechnics, and if their employer is a participating company.

Course Entry Requirement

Applicants should preferably be a graduate of a feeder programme as listed here.

Admission will be reviewed and approved by the polytechnic on a case-by-case basis.

Conditional Offer

Graduating student (in final academic year) from a local polytechnic may apply for the programme.
