The Specialist Diploma in Youth and Student Support and Development (SDYSSD) will deepen participants’ professional practices in youth work, and student support and development work in the institution of higher learning. It enables them to critically examine the impact of relevant policies on programmes, strengthen knowledge and skills in applied research and analytics to underpin the design, implementation and evaluation of youth and student programmes.
What is so unique about this programme?
The programme enhances participants’ competencies to engage youths and students, developing their resilience and leadership, as well as decision making, through mentoring and coaching.
Target Audience
SDYSSD targets two main groups:
1. Existing practitioners in youth work, student support and student development (e.g., trainers, officers, mentors and coaches from educational institutions, government agencies and grassroots organisations) who are seeking to strengthen their knowledge in this area
2. Learners who are aspiring to join this sector to work with youth
How often do I need to attend the course?
Lessons will be held at RP ACE @ Woodlands or via online learning.

Module 1 for each PDC will have 12 Asynchronous e-learning in the respective semester.
Module 2 and 3 for each PDC will have 6 Asynchronous e-learning in the respective semester.

This course was very beneficial when I was in my second year as a youth worker with no prior experience. I learned how to better govern myself, gain industry insights, and have a better understanding of how to assist and empower the youth with whom I work.
Pursuing this course has been an enriching journey. It has been invaluable to my work field as well. I dealt with students with more understanding towards them and it helps to find a suitable intervention for them. The lecturers have been very helpful and understanding, making every task albeit lengthy but fun and rewarding.
The course has equipped me with the knowledge to mentor youth effectively with applied techniques and professional strategies. There is no greater feeling of a job well done than seeing a young person overcome the hardships they face and turning into a valuable member of the community.
Applicants should possess a relevant local polytechnic diploma or degree in any discipline.
If you do not meet the entry requirements, you may be considered for admission to the course based on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). For shortlisted applicants, you may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test.
Admission will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis.
