Avery has shown excellence in both his academic pursuits and student life activities. He was inducted into the Director’s Roll of Honour for 5 semesters and was the Diploma Prize recipient for 2 years.  In addition, he was also recipient of the Hong Leong Foundation Scholarship in 2015 and A*STAR Science Award (Polytechnic) in 2016 and 2017. Avery completed his internship at A*STAR with a pass with commendation.

Beyond the classroom, Avery is passionate about marine conservation. He was the President for Marine Science Interest Group and organised events such as Aquarist Week, which was a week of aquarium related talks and workshops involving external speakers. Avery also volunteered with Conservation International, to raise awareness for conservation of marine creatures at the Asia Dive Expo. He also represented Republic Polytechnic at the Singapore Science Festival 2016.
