Admissions Guide For Students with
Other Qualifications

Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE)

The Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE) allows applicants with other qualifications to apply for admission to our full-time diploma courses.

Admission is based on academic merit, entrance test results (if applicable) and available vacancies of the diploma courses. Meeting the Minimum Entry Requirement (MER) does not guarantee that applicant will be offered a placement in the diploma programme. These requirements are set in place to ensure fairness to all applicants.

Who can Apply? 

Applicants with other qualifications, except for current RP students. 

Entry Requirements

You must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Obtain a College or High School Certificate (equivalent to the Singapore-Cambridge O-Level Certificate)

  • Meet the MER listed under the respective country/qualification below. 

English Proficiency Requirement

Applicants with international qualifications are required to either submit valid IELTS or TOEFL results or sit for the English Entrance Test. The following groups of students with Cambridge O-Level equivalent qualifications are exempted from this requirement:

  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • IGCSE (English as a 1st Language)
  • Malaysia (UEC / SPM)
  • Brunei (GCE – Ordinary Levels)
  • Year 12 High School Diplomas from USA/Australia/New Zealand/Canada with minimum grade of 70% for English

IELTS and TOEFL Criteria:

  • IELTS minimum score of 6 for all individual components (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) and overall band score
  • TOEFL Internet-Based Test minimum score of 78
  • The IELTS Indicator and TOEFL iBT ® Special Home Edition are also accepted

Applicants who met the above IELTS or TOEFL criteria are deemed to have attained a sufficient level of proficiency in the English Language. 

Valid IELTS or TOEFL results must be submitted to RP by 28 November 2022 via the DAE Application Portal (before closing of application period) or RP’s Online Enquiry Form (after closing of  application period).


Entrance Test

The harmonised Entrance Test(s) are jointly organised by the five Polytechnics in Singapore. Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to sit for the Entrance Test(s) for English and/or Mathematics and/or Science to assess their suitability in the courses applied. Shortlisted applicants will receive the email invitation for Entrance Test(s) by 5 Dec 2022.

Returning Singapore Citizens and PRs (SCPR)

At least Year 10 of High School with:

  • English: Minimum Grade B
  • Mathematics: Minimum Grade B
  • 1 relevant and 2 best subjects: Minimum Grade B

IGCSE

  • Same MER as GCE O-levels. Click here for the list of courses and their MER.
  • GCSE/IGCSE Grades A to C is comparable to GCE O-Level Grades 1 to 6, and IGCSE/GCSE Grade D is comparable to GCE O-Level Grade 7.
  • New GCSE/IGCSE Grades 9 to 4 is comparable to GCE O-Level Grades 1 to 6, and IGCSE/GCSE Grade 3 is comparable to GCE O-Level Grade 7.
  • For IGCSE, only English taken as First Language will be considered.

Please note

  • GCSE/IGCSE qualifications from Cambridge, Edexcel and Oxford AQA are accepted.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB)

All requirements are for Standard Level:

  • English: Minimum Grade 5
  • Mathematics: Minimum Grade 5
  • 1 relevant and 2 best subjects: Minimum Grade 5

BRUNEI

General Certificate of Education - Ordinary Levels

  • Same MER as GCE O-Level. Click here for the list of courses and their MER.

CHINA

National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) (Gao Kao, 高考)*

  • English: Minimum 60%
  • Mathematics: Minimum 60%
  • 1 relevant subject and 2 best subjects (1 subject if there are only 4 subjects in NCEE): Minimum 60%

*Applications only open to applicants holding the most recent NCEE results, i.e. AY2023 intake is only open to applicants with Year 2022 NCEE results

Applicants who meet the MER above may be shortlisted to sit for an Entrance Test in English, Mathematics and Science.

HONG KONG

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE)

Category A subjects only:
  • English: Minimum Grade 3
  • Mathematics: Minimum Grade 3
  • 1 relevant and 2 best subjects: Minimum Grade 3


Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE; until 2011)

  • Scores should be similar to those of the HKDSE

Applicants who meet the MER above may be shortlisted to sit for an Entrance Test in English, Mathematics and Science.

INDIA

(Year 10) Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
  • English: Minimum 70%
  • Mathematics: Minimum 70%
  • 1 relevant subject and 2 best subjects: Minimum 70% each (1 subject if there are only 4 subjects in the National Examinations)


(Year 12) Higher Secondary School Certificate

  • English: Minimum 70%
  • Mathematics: Minimum 70%
  • 1 relevant subject and 2 best subjects: Minimum 70% each (1 subject if there are only 4 subjects in the National Examinations)

Applicants who meet the MER above may be shortlisted to sit for an Entrance Test in English, Mathematics and Science.

INDONESIA


National Final Evaluation Examinations
  • Ujian Akhir Nasional (UAN)
  • Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA)
  • SMU Ebtanas

Indonesian High School Results (from 2021 onwards):

  • English: Minimum Grade 7
  • Mathematics: Minimum Grade 7
  • 1 relevant subject and 1 best subject: Minimum Grade 7

Applicants who meet the MER above may be shortlisted to sit for an Entrance Test in English, Mathematics and Science.

MALAYSIA

Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)

  • Same MER as GCE O-Level. Click here for the list of courses and their MER.
  • SPM Grades A+ to C are comparable to GCE O-Level Grades 1 to 6
  • UEC Grades A1 to C8 are comparable to GCE O-Level Grades 1 to 6

*Malaysian applicants with school-based results and have registered for the 2022 SPM/UEC examinations will be considered if the national examination results are not available. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed further via English Entrance Test and/or online interview/competency test.

MYANMAR

Basic Education High School (BEHS) - Year 11

  • English: Minimum 70%
  • Mathematics: Minimum 70%
  • 1 relevant subject and 2 best subjects: Minimum 70%
Applicants who meet the MER above may be shortlisted to sit for an Entrance Test in English, Mathematics and Science.

PHILIPPINES

High School Diploma

SRI LANKA

Applicants who meet the MER above may be shortlisted to sit for an Entrance Test in English, Mathematics and Science.

OTHER INTERNATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Assessed on a case-by-case basis but should have completed Year 12 of High School with:

  • English: Minimum Grade B
  • Mathematics: Minimum Grade B
  • 1 other relevant and 2 best subjects: Minimum Grade B

Assessment

Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to sit for the Entrance Test(s) for English and/or Mathematics and/or Science to assess their suitability in the courses applied. Shortlisted applicants will receive the email invitation for Entrance Test(s) by 5 Dec 2022.

Enrolment

If your application is successful, you will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the online enrolment within 3-4 weeks.
