Operation Theatre is an English Drama group in Republic Polytechnic that dissects social issues ranging from problems of the heart and mind to situations happening around the world.
Under the tutelage of Theatre Practitioner Gloria Tan, the interest group has produced many challenging plays since its inception in 2005. The members don many hats in all their productions, including student directors, producers, stage managers, playwrights, cast and crew. The group also stages plays for children with special needs annually and provides a space for these children to express themselves freely.
In 2015, Operation Theatre collaborated with MediaCorp and staged the performance “My Name Is Jamie”. Subsequently in 2016, the group staged ‘Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ for special needs children using Theatre as a form of Art Therapy as well as “Riley’s Rain", was staged in Singapore, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur with a grand total of 13 shows. “Riley’s Rain” was also a part of the M1 Peer Pleasure Festival 2020. Continuing their streak of sensory performances, the group recently staged “Toby’s Journey” at Gateway Theatre in February 2025.
With their passion and commitment, Operation Theatre hopes to continue shedding light on social issues and provide quality shows in and out of campus.
