This module introduces mathematical principles essential for applied sciences, emphasising understanding, problem-solving, and application in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.
Key topics encompass algebra (quadratic functions, equations, surds, polynomials, binomial expansions, exponential and logarithmic functions), geometry and trigonometry (trigonometric functions, coordinate geometry, proofs), and calculus (differentiation and integration). The module aims to develop thinking, reasoning, communication, and application through a mathematical approach to problem-solving. At the end of this module, students will gain the necessary mathematical skills for scientific disciplines and advanced modules in their respective diploma programmes.
