This module introduces the following fundamental concepts and their implications: chromosome organisation, DNA transmission, Mendelian and non-Mendelian inheritance, phenotypic expression of genes, breeding and genetic crossing, population genetics, and heritable genetic disorders.

Students will examine genetic inheritance and transmission, understand the mechanisms behind genetic transmission and variability, and relate genetic defects to common genetic disorders and birth abnormalities.
