A331 Oncology and Therapeutics
This module covers the basic processes and regulation of cell proliferation, the cell cycle, and cell death. Students will examine the molecular basis of carcinogenesis and the properties of cancer cells, with a focus on the roles of oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes.
The module integrates environmental and genetic factors in cancer with key concepts in cell biology, genetics, tumour immunology, histopathology, and anatomy. Students will also explore key therapeutic strategies and advancements in cancer therapy, including immunotherapy. Laboratory sessions will introduce students to materials, equipment, and laboratory techniques frequently used in oncology laboratories, such as flow cytometry and immunofluorescence, applying theoretical concepts in practice.
