A373 Pharmaceutics and Compounding Techniques
Pharmaceutics and Compounding techniques will familiarise students with the core principles underlying drug delivery systems, formulation, and compounding of various drug dosage forms.
Students will explore conventional routes of drug administration, alongside specialised delivery systems like inhalation, transdermal, ophthalmic and parenteral routes. Through hands-on practical, students will gain competencies in preparing extemporaneous preparations, such as suspensions, emulsions, creams, lotions and suppositories. They will also learn to apply pharmaceutical calculation skills for precise medication preparation, as well as the application of physicochemical principles to enhance drug delivery systems. Additionally, the module introduces students to aseptic compounding practices.
