C227 Computer System Technologies

This module introduces students to the core technologies that power modern computing and digital connectivity.

The module is divided into two key areas: Operating System (OS) Concepts and Networking. Students will explore how operating systems manage processes, memory, devices, and security through hands-on command-line tasks and scripting. Networking topics include IP addressing, subnetting, routing, and protocols such as TCP, UDP, DNS, and HTTP, with practical exposure to switches, routers, and firewalls.

Industry-relevant tools and simulation platforms are used to reinforce learning, while cloud computing and virtualisation technologies such as hypervisors and containerisation are integrated to reflect current enterprise standards. This module prepares learners for roles in the field of IT infrastructure, systems administration, and cloud operations.
