This module provides an overview of design principles, product features, and the integrated process of product development.

Students explore key stages of the design process, including specification development, prototyping, computer-aided design (CAD), product assembly, system integration, and manufacturing considerations.

The module emphasises efficiency and sustainability by applying engineering knowledge and prototyping methods to streamline design, reduce lead time, and minimise waste. Through problem-based learning and hands-on activities involving styrene modelling, laser cutting, and 3D printing, students gain practical experience in transforming design concepts into functional prototypes.
